What to Expect in Your First Appointment

Your first session is all about getting to know each other and understanding what brings you to therapy. Here's what we'll cover:

During Your First Session (50-60 minutes):

We'll Discuss:

  • What prompted you to seek therapy now
  • Your current challenges and concerns (caregiver stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, etc.)
  • Your goals for therapy - what would you like to be different?
  • Your background and relevant history
  • Any immediate concerns or crises

I'll Share:

  • My approach to therapy and how we'll work together
  • Confidentiality and what to expect in our sessions
  • An initial treatment plan tailored to your needs
  • Answers to any questions you have about the process

You'll Leave With:

  • A clear understanding of how therapy will help
  • Next steps and a plan for moving forward
  • A sense of relief that you've taken this important step

How to Prepare for Your First Session

Please complete all paperwork no later than 24 hours

before the appointment
Jot down a few notes about what you'd like to discuss

(optional but helpful)
Come as you are - there's no "right" way to do therapy
Be ready to be honest - the more open you are, the more I can help

For Telehealth Appointments:

  • Test your internet connection beforehand
  • Have a glass of water nearby
  • Give yourself a few minutes before and after for self-care
